All of our Classic Twinflap Saddle models are available to upgrade to Buffalo leather.
Why would I choose Buffalo?
Well! Buffalo leather has an epidermal layer almost three times the thickness of Bovine leather which makes it extremely hardwearing and durable.
Why?
Buffalo hides are not stretched during the tanning process, and therefore the leather retains it's thickness and strength, in fact, full grain Buffalo is some of the strongest leather you can buy.
How will this affect my saddle?
Despite its strength and durability, Buffalo is soft and flexible and therefore makes it a perfect addition to your saddle. With correct care, Buffalo develops a rich patina and can last a life time.
Is it sustainable?
Buffalo leather, the same as regular cow leather, is a by product of the Buffalo meat industry. Using the leather prevents it from going into landfills.
The tanning of leather is one of the most highly regulated industries in the UK, and uses natural materials such as bark or other organic vegetable matter where possible.
Plus, the hardiness of the leather means the flaps and skirts will not wear as fast as other leathers increasing it's life span.
TLDR
Buffalo is a hard wearing yet supple leather, perfect for demanding disciplines and long days in the saddle.
It has has a unique aesthetic appearance due to it's tanning process, which also improves it's durability and increases the over all life span of the saddle.
